Instructions for submitting Letter of Interest for Warren Dunning Memorial Grants (three year)

Episcopal Community Services is pleased to again offer its three-year Warren Dunning Memorial Social Justice Grant to all congregations of the diocese

This grant is named for a servant leader in our diocese worked tirelessly over the years for ECS, for Jubilee Ministries, and in several other capacities, all in the service of serving the least, the last and the lonely.  He modeled service to others for Christ.  His death leaves a large hole in the life of our diocese.  To honor him, ECS is developed this special grant in his memory.

We are requesting that any congregation in the Diocese of Northern California considering applying for this three-year grant, submit an informal Letter of Interest.  This letter will help us in our long-range planning, and will help you formalize your strategy.

Up to $5,000 will be granted for the first year, with a reduction of $1,000 in each of the subsequent years.  This multi-year grant is established in order that a congregation will have the time to develop a plan to sustain the grant’s activity, with their own funding sources, beyond the life of the grant.  The successful congregation will be required to submit an application for years Two and Three, although not as much information will be required.

A Letter of Interest for the Warren Dunning Memorial Social Justice Grant should include the following:

  1. The ministry must focus on one or more of the following (areas of special interest to Warren):
  • the least
  • the last
  • the lonely
  1. A description of the need for this ministry.  What do you want to accomplish? Why will you require the longer, three-year, approach?
  2. The amount of your planned request (up to $5,000 for the first year, up to $4,000 for the second year, and up to $3,000 for the third year).
  3. The endorsement of your clergy in charge and your senior warden.

Although not mandatory for consideration of your subsequent grant application, congregations submitting a Letter of Interest will receive priority during the grant application process.

The Letter of Interest is due by March 15, 2018.

In reciprocity, the successful grant applicant will be required to designate a member of the team involved in the ministry as a liaison to the Episcopal Community Services board for the duration of the grant. The liaison will report verbally to the ECS board quarterly.

Please email your Letter of Interest to:

Please do not send it to any other address.

We look forward with joyful anticipation to hearing from you.
